Hitting out at the Punjab government over the alleged murder of a UK-based NRI hotelier in Jalandhar, Congress today accused it of failing to maintain law and order in the state.
Ranjit Singh, a UK-based hotelier, was allegedly murdered by his business partner in Jalandhar on May 8.
Expressing serious concern over the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to tell the people about the actual state of affairs in the state.
"Every year the Punjab government organises a NRI sammelan with great pomp and show, spending lavishly the tax payers' money on their hospitality.
"They talk about NRI investment, NRI police stations, NRI safety... What has happened to Ranjit Singh is a glaring example of NRI safety," he asked.
The Chief Minister should take responsibility for this incident and order a fair and time-bound inquiry into it.

"What impression does this reflect on the NRI diaspora about the law and order situation in Punjab?" he asked.
Ranjit went missing in Jalandhar earlier this month.
A missing person's complaint was filed by his brother Amreek Singh on May 18 following which a police team was formed to investigate the case.
He was allegedly murdered in May 8, police had said.
