The Congress today alleged that the BJP government in Rajasthan was involved in the attack on the residence of one of its Dalit leaders in the state.

It alleged that the residence former Rajasthan minister Bharoselal Jatav was set on fire by a mob on Tuesday.

Congress's scheduled castes department chief Nitin Raut in a statement alleged that the attack was pre-planned "in connivance with the BJP government" in the state.

Raut alleged the state administration remained a "mute spectator", and the police too failed to avert the attack despite having information about it.

"The administration did not act promptly... It remained a mute spectator. The party demands immediate inquiry and action against the errant officers and compensation for the loss," the statement read.

The incident occurred a day after Rajasthan and several other states saw large scale protests and violence during a bandh called by Dalit organisations against the alleged dilution of the SC/SC Act by the Supreme Court.

"The mob stormed the Dalit pockets in the town and caused a lot of damage to the houses of the community," he added.
