The main opposition Congress today staged a walkout from the Chhattisgarh Assembly alleging irregularities in utilising funds sanctioned by Centre for the tribal-dominated Bastar region.
Raising the issue in Question Hour, Congress MLA Deepak Baij, who represents Chitrakoot constituency, sought to know whether a project implementation committee has been constituted under Jagdalpur Project (in Bastar district) and about the amount sanctioned under it during the financial years 2013-14 and 2014-2015.
He also asked about the development works being proposed under the project.
In his reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Chandrakar, who was speaking in the absence of Tribal Development Minister Kedar Kashyap, said a project implementation committee has been formed under the Jagdalpur Project.
Under the project, a sum of Rs 949.39 lakh was sanctioned in 2013-14 and of Rs 545.558 lakh in 2014-15, he said.
Various works proposed under the project include construction of quarters for superintendents, compound, toilets/washroom, drinking water facilities and setting up of solar pumps and solar lights in ashram (residential) school for girls.
Besides, solar-based community irrigation projects, skill development projects and various other works are proposed under the project being implemented through Centre's assistance, the minister said.
Baij then asked whether any project advisory panel has been constituted and if yes then has any public representative been enrolled as a member of it, to which Chandrakar replied in the negative.
