Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee chief Birajit Sinha said the party would again organise such road blockades unless urgent steps were taken to repair the roads as the state remained cut-off for the last fortnight due to poor condition of the highway, especially in neighbouring Assam.
The blockades, that were carried out at 10 places on the highway, were led by Sinha, party's working president Asish Saha and the Leader of the Opposition, Sudip Roy Burman.
No untoward incident was reported during the blockade, police said.
The highway was very badly damaged in Lowerpowa areas of Karimganj district of Assam due to incessant rain.
Meanwhile, two MPs from Tripura -- Jitendra Chowdhury and Shankarprasad Datta on Saturday-- jointly wrote to the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, urging him to repair a 20 km long road from Churaibari in North Tripura district to Patharkandi in Assam.
"The road has virtually turned into a paddy field as it has been broken due to incessant rain and floods", they said in the letter, adding that thousands of trucks carrying essential commodities remained stranded. Prices of essential commodities have been skyrocketed due to the trucks remaining stranded," they said.
