BJP candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor S S Minhas and Digvijay Singh Chauhan are expected to file their nominations tomorrow, the last day for submitting documents.
Congress has fielded sitting Mayor Madhu Sood as party nominee while the CPI-M mayoral nominee is Sanjay Chauhan.
Thirty-eight aspirants filed their nominations for 25 wards of SMC today.
Fifty per cent wards -- 13 out of 25 -- have been reserved for women candidates.
The SMC is controlled by the Congress since its inception in 1986. The party has swept the five Municipal Corporation polls held so far.
For the first time, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will be elected directly by the people.
