"We have met Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and called for his personal intervention for creating extra 4,000 Special Police Officer (SPO) posts for erstwhile district Doda as these districts (Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar) are having only 25 percent road connectivity and are the far flung areas of the state," former Congress minister and MLA Inderwal G M Saroori said today.
Saroori, who led a delegation of JKPCC leaders, called on the minister yesterday and apprised him about the various problems being faced by the public in the three districts.
They have demanded that the wages of SPOs be increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 and the sanction of all pending road projects submitted to the Centre under the militancy affected area scheme be expedited.
They also made an appeal for a special financial package for the state on the lines of the north-east.
"Incentives should be unique to Jammu and Kashmir and proactive policy should be put in place for recruitment of unemployed youths of the state in central government services, autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings and central paramilitary forces," he said.
The Union minister has assured them that the Centre will consider their demands on priority basis, he said.
