The ruling Congress today demanded an emergency session of the Uttarakhand Assembly to enact a law granting 10 per cent reservation in government jobs to statehood agitationists.
"The Chief Minister should summon an emergency session of the Assembly and enact a law making provision for 10 per cent quota in government services to statehood agitationists," Pradesh Congress spokesman Dhirendra Pratap said at a meeting with Uttarakhand statehood agitationists.
Expressing shock over the recent Uttarakhand High Court order putting a stay on this provision, Pratap said the state was created by Uttarakhand agitators and their rights should be protected at all cost.
However, he expressed confidence that the Special Leave Petition to be filed by the state government in this regard would help agitationists get back their rights soon.
Remembering the martyrs of Mussoorie shooting incident on its anniversary today, he said their sacrifices which finally led to the creation of Uttarakhand will never be forgotten.
