The party which submitted about two lakh complaints to the Election Commission of India (ECI) today took out processions in all the 23 sub-divisions of the eight districts in the state, demonstrated before the offices of the EROs and submitted memorandum demanding error-free electoral rolls.
Congress sources said the memorandum was prepared from the state headquarters here and the same content was submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) working as EROs.
The President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Sudip Roy Burman told reporters that the state machinery influenced by the ruling CPI-M had manipulated the electoral rolls and even the names of many Bangladeshis were included in the voters list to swell their vote banks.
Special summary revisions of electoral rolls are being conducted in the state following the complaints of the opposition Congress and January 1 is the qualifying date for inclusion of new voters.
The elections for the 60-member assembly are scheduled to be held in February and the last date of completion of the election process is March 16.
CPI-M party Secretary Bijon Dhar said that the opposition congress sensing humiliating defeat were falsely objecting that the electoral rolls were manipulated which was actually a ploy to delay the schedule election for promulgation of the President
