: Congress indulged in 'divisive' and appeasement politics while in power, but was now projecting its leadership to be Hindu, BJP MP Anurag Thakur alleged here Saturday.
"The people who used to do appeasement politics till yesterday.. who used to speak about Hindu terrorism for vote bank (politics)..today they wear 'janeu' (sacred thread) and say I am also Hindu," he said, speaking at the national convention of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, BJP's youth wing.
Thakur alleged that a top Congress leader had visited the home of terrorists involved in the Batla house encounter, but not the residence of deceased Inspector M C Sharma.
"Today, the national president of the same Congress talks about wearing 'janeu'.
"On the other hand, BJP has given a Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) who celebrates every Diwali with soldiers, Thakur said.
"One thing becomes clear with this. One who speaks about Hindu interests in India, (he) will rule in India," he said.

The encounter occurred in September 19 2008 against Indian Mujahideen terrorists at Batla House, a locality in Jamia Nagar in Delhi.
The encounter took place six days after serial bomb blasts rocked Delhi, claiming 26 lives.Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma succumbed to bullet injuries in the gun battle.
Thakur said Prime Minister Modi had offered 'pranam' (salutations) in Parliament and said his government would work with the spirit of 'sab ka sath sab ka vikas' (development of all sections of society).
He listed out the NDA government's achievments, saying it had provided LPG gas connections to more than five crore women, toilets to over 7.50 crore families and loans under 'MUDRA' scheme to more than 12 crore people.
Thakur claimed that BJP has made 'BIMARU' states like Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh register over 10 per cent growth.
The acronym 'BIMARU' was coined in the 1980s to refer to the economic condition of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Thakur urged BJYM activists to strive hard to bring BJP back to power and make Modi Prime Minister again.
