The incident occurred in the presence of PCC president Chandrabhan who was taken to a safe place by the party workers.
As soon as the workshop began, Congress leader Vishvendra Singh's supporters raised objection over the functioning of local level party bearers.
Few of his supporters threw chairs on participants and thrashed party seniors including district Congress president Girish Chaudhary and former district president Govind Sharma.
"After creating a ruckus for 30 minutes, the annoyed party members went back and the workshop was resumed. A resolution against Singh was passed. Singh, a PCC member, has some rivalry with district president due to which the workshop was disrupted," said a party spokesperson.
Condemning the incident, Chandrabhan said everybody has right to raise his point in a democratic manner. He said he will inform the party high command about the incident.
When contacted, Singh claimed he had nothing to do with the violence and said, "How can one say that people who created ruckus were my supporters?"
A police official said that no FIR has been lodged against anyone so far.
