A Congress member in the Lok Sabha today made a strong plea that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit drought-hit Maharashtra to see for himself the plight of people in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions which is witnessing a spate of farmers suicides.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Rajeev Satav, also made a strong plea for a loan-waiver to farmers hit hard by the recurrent drought for the past two years.
Satav lamented that in the past two years, Prime Minister has not visited Maharashtra even once to understand the pain and plight of the farmer.
He faulted the Centre for not providing the financial assistance being sought by Maharashtra for the past two years to tackle drought.
As many as four crore people in 21 out of 36 districts of Maharashtra have been affected by the drought and water scarcity, he said.
