After indicating a new warmth in relations with former ally DMK by backing the Dravidian party's Rajya Sabha nominee Kanimozhi, Congress today declined to commit whether the two parties would fight next Lok Sabha elections in alliance.
Asked why Congress is backing an individual, who is an accused in a 2G spectrum scam related case, Congress spokeperson Sandip Dikshit said "it's a decision to support a political party an not any individual.
"We are not nominating any individual (for Rajya Sabha). We have only five members. We had certain choices, of which we had to decide."
He also said "everybody who goes to jail is not guilty."
Asked whether Congress could align with DMK for 2014 general elections, Dikshit said any decision on the issue of alliance will be taken by the sub-committee on alliance headed by senior leader A K Antony.
Asked why Telecom Minister A Raja was asked to resign from the Union Cabinet over the 2G issue, Dikshit said the question of morality comes up when it is related to ministry.

Asked whehther the move aims at mollifying DMK which was seething after Raja was denied permission to appear before JPC, he said this was something on which a decision is to be taken by the panel chief P C Chacko.
At one point, Dikshit also termed DMK as a "coalition partner" but immediately clarified "our coalitin was with regard to a particular Rajya Sabha seat. Our coalition is limited to this."
He added if the possibility of any future coalition arises, the particular committee will take a view on it.
