The Congress workers started from the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters this evening but they were not allowed to move any further and were stopped some distance away from the party office, party spokesman Dwijendra Tripathi said.
"There was heavy barricading and we were not allowed to move ahead to reach the GPO park, as per our plan, and we sat on dharna on the road," he said, adding that the dharna lasted for about one-and-a-half hour.
"Party workers and leaders later paid homage to those who lost their lives facing hardships of demonetisation," Tripathi said.
Senior leaders, including Pramod Tewari and Sanjay Singh (both Rajya Sabha MPs), also took part in the march, he added.
