Police have registered a case of theft against unknown persons on a complaint filed by the driver of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pradip Bhattacharya in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony area.
Bhattacharya's driver has complained that the alleged attempt to steal the MP's car was made on November 25 when he was driving the MP (West Bengal), and his family, towards Okhla.
He alleged the vehicle was stuck in a traffic jam and had slowed down when some unknown persons punctured one of it tyres near Central School on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg around 9 PM, police said.
After their vehicle came to a halt, they felt suffocated inside the car since some gaseous smell had spread through the vehicle, following which they stepped out and went to a nearby shop where they got the tyre changed, they added.
In his complaint, the driver also said it was an attempt to harm the MP, his family and steal his car, which eventually didn't happen.
He also said there were two bike-borne men who were following the car.
"A case under sections 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), and 379 (punishment for theft) has been registered at Amar Colony police station," a senior police officer said.
