Congress today appealed to the Election Commission to introduce the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system in EVMs in the "super sensitive" Bathinda Lok Sabha seat in Punjab where election will be held on April 30.
In a letter to the EC, copies of which were released to the media here, Congress expressed apprehension of rigging by the state's ruling party and said introduction of VVPAT system in EVMs in Bathinda will ensure free and fair elections.
Sitting SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur, who is wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, is seeking re-election from Bathinda.
She is pitted against her husband's estranged cousin and Peoples Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal, who is also supported by Congress.
