Cong stages protest rally against J&K govt over flood

Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress today staged a rally here to protest alleged failure of the state government to provide adequate compensation to the last year flood victims.
"Selab Zadah Loungoo ko Mawzah do warna sarkar Choud do (Give compensation to the flood hit people or otherwise leave the government)," read a banner as hundreds of congress women activists marched a short distance from the party headquarters at Moulana Azad Road to nearby Regal Chowk.
Initially, the activists led by All India Mahila Congress chairperson Shobha Oza and state Congress president G A Mir tried to march towards Lal Chowk but were not allowed by police fearing law and order situation.

Later, they moved towards Regal chowk and returned to the party headquarters peacefully, raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
"We have staged this demonstration to highlight the failure of the government in rehabilitation of flood affected people. The PDP-BJP coalition government has failed on all fronts," a congress spokesman said.
Earlier addressing the day-long convention of Mahila Congress at the party headquarters, Oza expressed satisfaction over the turn out of the woman at the rally and said there is no doubt that the Party is in a vibrant situation in the State.

"It gave me immense pleasure to see that Mahila Congress is also strong enough in the state," she said and asked the party workers to remain steadfast in serving the Party to the best of their ability.

Mir, in his address, said Congress has the power to stop the BJP to implement "RSS agenda" both in the State and the Centre as the party has always worked for maintaining secular fabric of the country at all levels.
"Congress has always taken care of every section of Society irrespective of caste, colour and creed and worked for the upliftment of women. It is Congress which gave the women of country every right, knowing that women plays a pivotal role in Nation building," the state Congress Chief said.
Lauding the efforts of the women, Mir said his party is committed to make the women more powerful, so that our Country move ahead with all might.

"They too have a greater role in development of the Country," he said.
