A senior Congress leader in Goa today said that despite Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's claim that Ola Cab, a private operator, has been not been allowed in the state, it was actually in operation.
State Transport Department had claimed that they have not given permission for Ola Cab. Local civic body had even asked the company to shut down its premises in Panaji after they failed to pay required tax.
However, Congress leader and legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said he booked Ola Cab online today and got the taxi near party's state headquarter.
"If Parrikar says that the cab service is not allowed in the state, then how come I could get it? I booked it online and he was there at my doorstep to provide me service," Lourenco told reporters.
Lourenco said that the company's presence is proving to be detrimental for other taxi operators.
"The chief minister is blatantly lying just to stop the taxi operators from protesting against the company," he alleged.
Taxi operators had resorted to strike this week demanding cancellation of permit given to Ola Cab, a company that provides cab service.
Parrikar had told reporters that the state government has not given any permission for the cab operators and they are debarred from operating in the state.
