Opposition Congress has decided to boycott the Monsoon Session of Chhattisgarh Assembly starting from July 15 to protest against state government's "failure" to provide security, which it said, led to the Naxal attack on the convoy of party leaders in Bastar on May 25.
"Party members will attend the obituary references to pay tribute to slain Congress leaders before boycotting the remaining session, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ravindra Choubey told reporters on the sidelines of a programme at Bilaspur today.
"The party has decided to boycott the session as the state government failed to provide security to the Congress convoy due to which the party has lost several of its leaders," he added.
The Monsoon Session is slated to be held between July 15 and 19, with total five sittings during the entire session.
On May 25, heavily-armed Maoists had ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in the state's Bastar district, killing 29 people including state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former Union Minister V C Shukla, senior leader Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudliyar and injuring 35 others.
