Punjab Congress will contest the upcoming local body elections in the state on the party symbol, state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa said here today.
Bajwa said local leaders will have the option to have alliance with non-Akali and non-BJP parties.
The Punjab Congress chief addressed a meeting of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee held here to chalk out the strategy for the elections.
Attacking the SAD-BJP government in the state, Bajwa said people are "fed up" with the present administration and "want" a change.
"Congress will have to unitedly approach them to initiate the process of change beginning with the local body elections," he said.
Bajwa alleged that BJP was looking for a escape route so that only the Akalis faced the brunt of "anti-incumbency".

"Congress would make people aware about this hidden design of BJP in the state which might try to befool them by breaking the alliance," he alleged.
"However, the two parties might join hands after the Assembly elections in case such a situation arose," he added.
He claimed the state had been most peaceful under Congress rule.
AICC Secretary Harish Chaudhary asked leaders to strengthen the party at the grassroot level and prepare for the elections by setting up 11-member booth-level committees.
He said there was a possibility of early Assembly elections in Punjab.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of its membership drive.
