Congress will field strong women candidates to take on "musclemen" fielded by its political opponents in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
On the demands of Mahila Congress for more representation in the upcoming polls, it was decided at a meeting with election strategist Prashant Kishor and UPCC chief Nirmal Khatri that Mahila Congress leaders will identify such seats and dedicated women candidates would be fielded there.
According to Congress leaders present in the meeting, Kishor, who has been taking feedback from leaders and office bearers of all frontal organisations, cells and departments since yesterday, told them that though he will be telling them the ways and means to go about in the elections, it is the party leaders and workers who will have to contest and win.
"You will have to prepare the organisation up to the booth level and strengthen it," Kishore told partymen, adding those who will make good contribution would be rewarded with party ticket.
The poll strategist said that work of dedicated workers will be evaluated and they will also be rewarded and things could be different from earlier times.
Leaders of NSUI, women wing, Seva Dal and minorities department were told in separate sittings to prepare one person each for every booth for the polls.
To their suggestions for early announcement of candidates and fielding a face for the chief ministerial post, there were indications that these things were being considered, party leaders said.
Khatri asked them to unitedly start preparations for the elections now itself to achieve the target of wresting power.
