The opposition Congress in Tripura today said it will launch a 10-day campaign across the state to protest against the alleged job scam from tomorrow.
Addressing a joint press conference, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president D C Hrankhawl and Leader of the Opposition, Sudip Roy Burman said "the 10-day long programme starting tomorrow, would include protest rallies in all 60 constituencies, squatting and submission of memoranda to the Chief Minister through different officials."
They said a separate memorandum would also be submitted to the Chief Executive Member of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council stating how the tribal council was rendered useless, due to which it failed to deliver goods to the tribals in the state constituting one third of the total population.
The tribal council came into being under the 6th schedule in 1987 to safeguard the political, cultural and economic interests of the tribals.
Burman said, there was nepotism and corruption by the CPI(M) in giving jobs and needy people were deprived as jobs were distributed among the ruling party cadres.
He said, the way jobs were distributed would also not be able to impart quality education to the students.
Recently 6,600 primary teachers were appointed by the Left Front government after a gap of 17 years.
Burman also said a transport strike would be observed for two hours from 9.30 AM to 11 AM on January 21 on the same issue. The opposition party has demanded cancellation of the jobs and issuance of fresh appointments.
