Cong to put in all might in UP Panchayat polls: Mistry

Congress will contest the upcoming panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh with full might and the party supported candidates posting victory in these elections will be given priority in ticket distribution for the 2017 Assembly polls, a senior party leader said here today.
"Unlike the previous occasions, the Congress will contest the panchayat polls with its full strength this time... A plan for holding a mass contact programme on peoples issues for these elections will be finalised soon," AICC general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in the state Madhusudan Mistry told newspersons here.
"Though the panchayat polls are not fought on party symbol but the party will extend full support to its candidates...Leaders will also campaign for supported candidates," Mistry said.
The panchayat polls are expected to be held later this year.
The party supported candidates posting victory in the panchayat elections and desiring to contest the 2017 Assembly polls will be given priority in ticket finalisation, he said.
To a question on the violence during Patel reservation stir in his home state Gujarat, Mistry said he wanted to ask the BJP as to how it has the run the government in the last 15 years that prosperous Patels were demanding quota.

UPCC president Nirmal Khatri, who was also present, said that detailed discussions on panchayat polls were held in a meeting of party vice presidents and presidents of district and city units at the party headquarters today.
"It was decided at the meeting to expose the wrongdoings of the government and congratulated those who made the August 17 programme of Vidhan Sabha 'gherao' a success.
The UPCC president said that a total of 456 party workers were injured in the police cane charge while moving towards the Vidhan Sabha for holding protest.
The workers of Lucknow, who suffered injuries in the August 17 agitation, were presented certificates at the meeting.
