The Opposition Congress today staged a walk out in the West Bengal Assembly protesting against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's absence in the House during the debate on the budgetary demands on grants of Health and Family Welfare department.
Since the name of Banerjee, who is also the cabinet minister in Health department, was given on the printed budget speech along with the name of the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Chandrima Bhattacharya, opposition members presumed that the CM would reply at the end of the debate, Congress MLAs said.
After taking part in the debate, the Congress members walked out when Bhattacharya was to reply.
Bhattacharya described the move by Congress members as an insult to her and asked the Chair to give a thought to such behaviour.
Opposition members could not enjoy their privilege and stage a walk out without listening to the minister, she said.
Speaker Biman Banerjee described the attitude of the Congress members as non-cooperative.
