Opposition Congress today demanded sacking of Goa Power Minister Milind Naik for being "inefficient" in ensuring uninterrupted supply of electricity to common people who are reeling under frequent power cuts.
"We demand that Power Minister Milind Naik be sacked by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for his inefficiency. The minister is touring in Europe while entire state has plunged into the power crisis. He has failed to administer the department," said state unit Congress spokesman Sunil Kawathankar.
Kawathankar said that the minister, though has returned from his tour earlier this week, should have been in the state and launched fire-fighting measures when the crisis is looming large and power failures have become order of the day.
"There is no coordination within the department, as the officers are busy in unleashing scams on the state. We are not demanding his resignation, he should be sacked," the Congress leader alleged.
When contacted Naik refused to comment, but a senior officer of his department attributed incessant rains and falling of trees on power cables as the cause for outage.
"Every time there is a problem, the department has rushed to the spot," the officer said.
