Congress workers smashed furniture and broke glasses when the post office closed the counter at 3 PM, as scheduled, Superintendent of Police Kunal Agarwal said.
Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury, who was holding a rally in a nearby area, reached the spot on getting the information that applicantions were refused. He met senior Post Master Bidhan Acharya to request him to reconsider the decision since many youths were waiting.
Chowdhury, also WPCC chief, told reporters that he was kept waiting for over one and half hours and a section of the staff misbehaved with him before he could meet Acharya.
