Criticising the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, WBPCC president Adhir Chowdhury today challenged it to wipe out Congress from Bengal.
"Trinamool Congress is saying Congress will soon turn into a signboard in Bengal. It means they are afraid of our strength. Let them try to turn Congress into a signboard in the state if they have the guts," Chowdhury said while addressing party workers here.
"In the history of Congress, we have seen many victories and defeats, but they don't impact the party. It was there and it will remain. But if Trinamool faces one big defeat, it will simply disintegrate," the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president said.
Launching a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress, Chowdhury said the party banked on only one person and if Mamata Banerjee was removed from the party, there would be a mad scramble like a "musical chair".
The appointment of Chowdhury, a known baiter of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, came at a time when the state Congress was plagued by exodus of party workers and MLAs to TMC.
The change of guard in the WBPCC came barely days after two Congress MLAs defied party's instruction of voting for a Congress-supported Independent candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections and cross-voted in favour of TMC candidate.
