Senior Congress leader V S Ugrappa and former Mayor Ramachandrappa, along with other Congress workers arrived at the railway station here and requested the NE people not to leave Bangalore since it is a safe and a secure city.
Ugrappa said it was unfortunate to see thousands of people leaving Bangalore giving credence to rumours and appealed to the people from North East not to leave.
"As per our Constitution, every person irrespective of caste or creed has the right to live anywhere in the country and pursue whatever profession he likes.... I am appealing to the state as well as the Central Government to take measures to protect the interests of people from North East," he said.
Meanwhile, Pallav Kishore Pukhan, Vice President of Assam Samaj, said samaj members have been trying to convince the people from North East not to leave Bangalore.
"I am very unhappy with the latest developments. They are leaving Bangalore based on rumours.Till now, I and other members of Assam Samaj have succeeded in convincing 100 people not leave Bangalore.I am confident of convincing more and more people to remain in Bangalore and pursue their respective profession," said Pukhan.
