Former Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakre, addresssing a press conference here, said Maharashtra needed Rs 50,000 crore for the loan waiver and equal amount for releasing fresh crop loans.
This was needed to prevent the farmer suicides in the state, he said.
The BJP-led government had no pro-farmer policy and was "confused", he said.
In the last four months, farmer suicides have increased. The western Vidarbha alone recorded 213 farmer suicides, he said, adding that meagre financial assistance announced by the state from time to time would not help the farmers who have faced hailstorms and untimely rains.
Congress would take to the streets in Vidarbha and elsewhere for the farmers' causes, he said.
He also targeted the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for showing apathy to farmers' issues.
