Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said that the Congress was "endorsing corruption" by declaring it a "non-issue."
Reacting to Congress' allegations against the BJP of highlighting non-issues as big ones, the Minister of state for DoNER said "corruption is a big issue for the common people but a non-issue for the Congress which tantamounts to a confession that they are endorsing it."
Corruption has been a matter of concern for most parties irrespective of political affiliations and the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was firm on its eradication, Singh told reporters here.
The Congress has accused the BJP government of blowing up non-issues but when "corruption is a big issue for the common man, it is also for us," he added.
"They (Congress) are the opposition and they have to say against the government. Being in the opposition they cannot praise the government," the minister said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's all-round popularity and his various innovative schemes initiated during the first year of his rule has irked the Congress and they are making such comments, he added.
"Modi has done in one year what the Congress could not do in so many years of its rule. His various new schemes, which few could have thought of, has helped the common man to a great extent and we are not concerned about what the opposition is saying," Singh said.
