Opposition Congress today expelled veteran leader and former TPCC chief Jawhar Saha for allegedly criticising party top brass including Tripura Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Barman and party leader Ratan Lal Nath.
Congress spokesperson Ashok Sinha said Saha has been expelled from the party for six years for breach of party discipline and tarnishing its image in public.
Saha allegedly told reporters last night, "Sudip Barman and opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath had sold Congress party in exchange of cash and other benefits".
The former minister had alleged that many candidates in the February 14 elections were given nomination by the party in exchange of money and the real candidates were not given party tickets as a result of which the party faced drubbing in the hustings.
Saha said he also wrote a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi asking her to inquire about the reasons for debacle of the party in the elections.
He alleged that when Congress workers and supporters were facing the brunt of post-poll violence unleashed by the ruling CPI-M, the present party leaders remained silent spectators.
Earlier, TPCC member Swaraj Sarkar was axed from the party for heckling AICC leader and in-charge of Tripura Luizenho Failero in presence of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the Congress Bhawan in Agartala last week.
