National People's Party (NPP) leader James K Sangma today alleged that the Congress government in Manipur has "failed" to solve the problems facing the state.
On the three month long economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC), Sangma said "an amicable solution can be brought through dialogue based on mutual understanding."
He said "an alternative route should be arranged, either in term of railways or air transport."
Interacting with PTI, Sangma said NPP was formed to serve as a platform to highlight the issues faced by the people of the North East on the floor of the parliament.
Sangma, son of late P Sangma, said his party is "fighting for the rights of the tribal for there is no genuine political representative which addresses the various issues faced by the people of the North East region."
NPP is fielding 21 candidates including one woman for the election, Sangma said and added that he is optimistic that the party will fare well this time.
