Charging BJP government in the state with hurting the sentiments of various religious communities, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee today held a massive dharna demanding an end to the razing of temples here.
Hundreds of party workers and at least a dozen leaders, including former ministers Raghu Sharma, Brij Kishore Sharma, former MP Raghu Sharma sat on dharna at "Bari Chaupar" demanding that the removal and razing of temples and other religious structure be stopped immediately.
Addressing the gathering, RPCC Vice President Raghu Sharma alleged that so far 86 temples have been razed and idols established elsewhere under the Vasundhara Raje-led government.
"Can any one erect the same temple at the same place which was not only religious but ancient and historic importance", Raghu said.
On RSS' plan for Chakka Jam here tomorrow against the BJP government from 9-11 AM, Raghu questioned why they had been sleeping for the last one and a half year and now carrying out damage control work after they realised that their "janadhar" (public support) had decreased.
"If BJP government does not stop removing and razing temples, the Congress would launch a statewide agitation in the near future," he warned.
To a question, he said, the Jaipur Metro had been brought by previous Congress government but not a single religious place had been touched.
Others who addressed the gathering, included Brij Kishore Sharma, Jyoti Khandelwal, Pratap Singh Khachariawas, Rajiv Arora, Ahsan Kureshi, Vikram Singh.
