The minority cell of Uttar Pradesh Congress today staged a state-wide protest against Samajwadi Party government and the BJP, charging them with shying away from the promises made to the minorities.
The Cell also extended an 11-point memorandum to Governor Ram Naik demanding implementation of the recommendations made by the Sachchar committee and the Rangnath Misra commission, a statement issued here said.
The sit-in protests were carried out in several districts of the state, it said.
Speaking on the occasion, Cell chairman Siraj Mehdi, who led the protests in Lucknow, alleged that the state government had promised to implement Sachchar committee and Rangnath Misra commission recommendations and had also announced providing 18 per cent reservation to minorities, but forgot all about it.
"The BJP government at the Centre is also shying away from its responsibilities towards the minorities", he said.
Samajwadi Party had promised to open schools in Muslim-dominated areas, but did nothing after coming to power, said Cell general secretary Maroof Khan.
Later in the evening, the Cell submitted an 11-point memorandum to Governor Naik citing the growing dissatisfaction among the minorities towards non implementation of the promises made by the Samajwadi Party and BJP, the release said.
