Ahead of the Goa assembly session beginning tomorrow, the opposition Congress party in Goa began an extensive exercise here today to curb rebellion within its legislature wing over the number of questions allowed to be tabled in the House.
All India Congress Committee Secretary A Chellakumar, who is here to pacify angry legislators, told PTI that he would hold discussions with all MLAs and tomorrow morning to understand their issue.
Congress legislators are upset with Leader of the Opposition Pratapsingh Rane for allowing the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) to curtail the number of questions during the forthcoming session to be held from October 9 to October 18.
A majority of the MLAs had boycotted the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting held yesterday in Panaji and Chellakumar admitted there is infighting over the issue.
"There are fights in every family and this would get sorted out soon," he said.
Chellakumar said the legislators had a valid reason to get upset over curtailment of the number of questions since the session is of a short duration during which Congress MLAs wish to "expose" the Parrikar-led BJP government.
The BAC has reduced the number of questions per MLA to only 18 a day, which includes three starred questions.
With its nine legislators, Congress is the largest opposition in the House.
