Angry over the death of a Manipuri youth following an alleged attack on him by five men in Kotla Mubarakpur area, Congress today staged a demonstration at Raisina Road demanding strict action against the accused.
29-year-old Akha Salouni from Manipur was allegedly beaten to death by a group of five men in a suspected case of road rage in Kotla Mubarakpur in the wee hours yesterday. He was returning to his Munirka flat after a party last night.
Some students from north-east and Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress members led by their state president Amit Malik staged a protest and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The protesters had planned to 'gherao' Parliament House, but Delhi Police personnel did not allow them to do so and stopped them near Youth Congress' office.
"Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh should ensure the safety and security of people from the north-east in Delhi, so that they can lead a peaceful life in the national capital," Malik told reporters here, adding that the accused should be brought to book.
