Former Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for resorting to 'vendetta politics' over the National Herald issue, and said he stands exposed before the country for failing to deliver on his promises and that this is clearly an attempt by Modi to divert public attention.
He alleged that this proxy litigation initiated by Subramaniam Swamy at Modi's behest "reinforces his vindictive mindset as his bubble has burst and people of this country have seen through his propaganda tactics".
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul were today granted unconditional bail in the high-voltage National Herald case on a private criminal complaint lodged by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in the transfer of shares of the defunct party newspaper Herald to a newly-created company.
Speaking about sacrifices made by the Nehru-Gandhi family for this country, Bajwa said it is essential to remind the BJP that members of this family have laid down their lives for the sake of our nation as they played a pioneering role in our freedom movement and built the foundations of our country.
Bajwa, in a statement, said Modi has set a "very unhealthy precedent in our democracy by propping up stooges like Swamy to unleash bogus vendetta politics on political opponents" and claimed that Congress has always bounced back and BJP's "mischievous campaign" will be given a befitting reply politically as well as legally.
He hit out at Modi for "rewarding" Swamy with Z+ security and allotting him a government bungalow in Lutyens Delhi for his "vendetta services".
"The fact that Modi government has accorded benefits and distributed largesse to Swamy in the form of a palatial government bungalow and Z+ security despite the fact that he is neither a MP nor a Minister vindicates this is a reward for pursuing a vendetta campaign against Gandhi family," he said.
