Revolting against Maharashtra Minister and Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik (NCP), Congressmen from Navi Mumbai and Mira Bhayander declared here today that they would not work for the sitting city MP for current Lok Sabha polls.
"We want to see Sanjeev Naik (NCP) defeated in the election and hence we ask citizens of the constituency not to vote for him," they told reporters at a press conference today.
Congressmen who include the former corporators of both the city municipal corporation and office bearers of the party were annoyed about the NCP working against the Congress in both the cities.
They alleged that NCP activists were working against Congress nominees in the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency.
Around 30 Congressmen said here today that they were quitting the Congress in protest against the NCP's attitude of sidelining the Congress at every stage and favouring opposition party members.
Replying to questions they said the issue was brought to the notice of senior Congress leaders including the Maharashtra Chief Minister, but nothing happened.
Former NMMC Deputy Mayor Ramakant Mhatre told reporters that they would also not work for the BJP or Shiv Sena.
"We will declare our policy within the next couple of days," he said.
