Consecration of 8th century Vishnu shrine by year end

The consecration of the eighth century Vishnu temple at Thiruvattar in this district would be held by January next after a gap of 410 years.
Renovation works are being undertaken at a cost of Rs.5.75 crore and the consecration would be conducted once it is completed, Temple Joint Commissioner Bharathi said today.
The temple on a 3.23 hectare land is surrounded by the rivers- Kothaiyaru and Paraliyaru, and has a 22-feet idol of Adhi Kesava Perumal (Lord Vishnu) in a reclining posture.
It is also one of the 108 holy Vaishnavite sites.
The 'Karuvarai' (sanctum sanctorum hall) and 'Otraikal Mandapam' (single pillar hall) have been renovated.
A new 'Dwajasthambam' (flagpost) would be installed, she said.
The herbal paintings of the shrine are also being renovated with the help of experts, the official added.
