The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi government to consider the interest of students too when allocating them various streams of courses in class XI in government schools here.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar asked the government to take into account the preferences or choices of the students after one of them told the court that she was given vocational stream even though she wanted to pursue Arts.
The court gave the order, while hearing a plea for direction to the Directorate of Education (DoE) to forthwith grant admission to over 180 students who have been allegedly wrongly denied admissions in government schools.
The DoE told the court that it was carrying out verification of the students whose names were provided to it by NGO Social Jurist, which had filed the PIL, and the process will take more time.
It also said while some students have been admitted, the verification for others will take some more time.
The bench, thereafter, gave the DoE four weeks time to complete the process and file a status report on the issue and listed the matter for further hearing on August 24.
