As against the 2.5 mm rains recorded last year on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor track, it was already five mm so far during this year, resulting in more mud slides and incidents of falling of boulders on the track, Shubranshu, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, told reporters here.
As against the 200 mm rainfall in areas of Coonoor to Udhagamandalam, particularly Aderley and Hillgrove stations, recorded last year, 400 mm of rainfall has been recorded so far this time, he said.
The services would resume only after reviewing the situation after four days, he said.
Shubhransu said there was no additional fund allotted for repair and restoration works, being occured frequently due to landslip and the division was managing with the available funds.
The Divisional Railway Manager who reviewed the damage and restoration works being carried out near Hillgrove, said a NMR Museum will also be started in Mettupalayam soon.
