Constable in drug case: Woman drug peddler's son arrested

The son of a wanted woman drug peddler has been arrested in connection with the alleged recovery of 12 kg of Mephedrone drug from a police constable's cupboard at a city police station last month.
Satish Patankar, son of drug peddler Baby Patankar, was arrested on April 14, Mumbai Police Spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni confirmed here today.
Satish had allegedly handed over 12 kg drugs to the accused Head Constable Dharmaraj Kalokhe, who was later arrested.
"Satish was first arrested by the Satara police and the Mumbai police obtained his custody from them," Kulkarni said.
The police had earlier issued a look out notice against Baby in the connection with the case. Presently, Kalokhe is in judicial custody.
Kalokhe, posted at Marine Drive police station in south Mumbai, had been arrested on March 9 after 110 kg of mephedrone drug, whose market value runs into "crores of rupees", was seized from his residence in a village under Khandala taluka in Satara district.

The next day, 12 kg of mephedrone was seized from his locked cupboard at the Marine Drive police station here, along with Rs 30,000 cash.
After a thorough interrogation by Satara police, Kalokhe was sent to judicial custody there.
The procedure to dismiss the constable from service is also underway.
An FIR was registered against Kalokhe at Marine Drive police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Mephedrone is sold in small quantities of 1gm for Rs 500 to Rs 2,000 and the highest concentration of the drug is in upscale south Mumbai.
