Constable suspended for extorting money from scrap dealer
Press Trust of India Ghaziabad(UP) Ghaziabad, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dharmendra Singh today suspended a police constable for allegedly extorting money from a scrap dealer whose son was lodged in police lock up.
In his complaint to the SSP, the scrap dealer Sayeed Ahmed, a resident of Shalimar Garden area had alleged that his son Tahir was whisked away by constable Pankaj Yadav posted at Link Road police station on February 20 and was kept confined in police lock up.
The constable allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from Sayeed, if he wanted to run the shop in the area.
Later on the matter was settled after Sayeed made a payment of Rs 5.70 lakh to the constable only after that his son was freed.
Taking cognizance of the matter the district police chief suspended the constable and sent him to police lines, said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ashish Srivastava adding that a departmental probe has also been ordered against the SHO of the police station, Upendra Yadav.
