Accusing former ministers and MLAs of amassing assets disproportionate to their known source of income, BJP today demanded setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate such cases.
"The government should constitute a SIT to probe the assets both movable and immovable acquired by the former ministers and their family members belonging to Congress, National Conference (NC) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) which are disproportionate to their known source of income," BJP state spokesman Virender Gupta said, adding that assets of bureaucrats and other administrative functionaries should also be investigated.
"Such a step was essential to introduce transparency in the system and to make it corruption free. It will act as a deterrent to the present MLAs and ministers for the elections to come," he said.
He said since independence leaders of political parties, bureaucrats and other government functionaries, looted the state exchequer meant for development works.
"As a result, the state despite getting huge financial assistance remained underdeveloped as compared to other states," the spokesman said.
He said if the state has to progress on par with other states, the psyche and working culture of people needs to be changed.
"Those at the helm of affairs and those who hold responsible positions have to devote themselves to state," he said.
