The Gurgaon administration also issued notices to 81 builders for violating norms.
The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Town and Country Planning S S Dhillon, accompanied by Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner P C Meena and Administrator HUDA Praveen Kumar, made a surprise visit to licensed colonies along the golf course extension road in Gurgaon and found that no construction activity was currently in progress in most of the places.
While referring to the ban by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to use underground water, Dhillon said over exploitation of ground water has resulted declining water level.
Therefore, a complete ban has been imposed on construction works, a spokesman said here.
In addition, use of water through tankers for construction activities has also been prohibited since Central Ground Water Authority has declared the entire Gurgaon district as 'notified area'.
Dhillon said builders could obtain treated water from sewerage treatment plants of the Municipal Corporation at Behrampur and Dhanwapur once permitted by HUDA.
