Construction industry assn protests cement price increase
Press Trust of India Coimbatore : About 500 members of 11 associations in the construction industry today took out a procession in the city to air their protest against the unprecedented increase in cement price in one month.
The members claimed that the price had shot up from Rs 280 per bag in November last year to Rs 395 now, an increase of Rs 115.
Alleging that the government had failed to reign in the prices, being hiked by a cartel of cement manufacturers, the associations said that Amma cement, launched by the government yesterday would not help bigger projects, since there were many formalities in getting the cement.
The associations including, BAI and CREDAI wanted the Government to take steps to bring down prices and also put in place a regulatory system to monitor the prices.
