A 46-year-old man was allegedly killed by four unidentified persons in Palghar's Nalla Sopara area, police said today.
As per a complaint filed by the deceased's wife Manisha M Yadav (37), she and her husband Mangesh Yadav (45), who used to do construction jobs, were standing in their residential society in Nilemore locality yesterday when the four men attacked Mangesh with iron rods and other weapons, Nalla Sopara police station inspector Bhajirao Kalantri said.
The four men also picked up a hammer lying around and hit Mangesh with it. They kept assaulting Mangesh till he collapsed and died on the spot, Kalantri said, quoting the complaint.
The four assailants also beat up Mangesh's wife when she tried to save him. They pushed her aside and locked the gates of the locality from outside before fleeing, he said.
Police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 341 (wrongful restraint) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and sections 37(1)(3) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act against the four unidentified men.
The body was later sent for post-mortem, police said, adding that the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained.
A hunt is on to trace the killers, the police officer said.
