Sharing the same fondness for fish, Bengalees and Japanese can open up future culinary route as bilateral exchanges, according to the Japanese Consul General Mitsuo Kawaguchi.
"Japanese dishes mostly source from vegetables and fish. From my little experience about your cuisine, Bengalee delicacies also heavily draw from these ingredients. So why not we two sides - your from India and Japan - opening up to each other through food," Kawaguchi told PTI on the launch of Matsuri, the only authentic restaurant specialising in Nippon cuisine, said.
"I hail from Keyushu area which is also known for our very own type of Sushi. And I find your food spicier and tangier while our cuisine has a different aroma, subtle but very recognisable. The two food culture can surely compliment each other," he said.
Actor Rituparna Sengupta, having travelled widely for shoots and sojourns, said she found Sushi and Maskar the two delectable Japanese delicacies one can't live without.
With Renkoji temple background drawings by Japanese artiste, waiters dressed in Kimono and Happi - typical black and white scarf tied around waist - served the cuisine as the members of consulate and other tourists here imparted the flavor of the rising sun nation in faraway Kolkata.
