"Japanese dishes mostly source from vegetables and fish. From my little experience about your cuisine, Bengalee delicacies also heavily draw from these ingredients. So why not we two sides - your from India and Japan - opening up to each other through food," Kawaguchi told PTI on the launch of Matsuri, the only authentic restaurant specialising in Nippon cuisine, said.
"I hail from Keyushu area which is also known for our very own type of Sushi. And I find your food spicier and tangier while our cuisine has a different aroma, subtle but very recognisable. The two food culture can surely compliment each other," he said.
With Renkoji temple background drawings by Japanese artiste, waiters dressed in Kimono and Happi - typical black and white scarf tied around waist - served the cuisine as the members of consulate and other tourists here imparted the flavor of the rising sun nation in faraway Kolkata.
