Contribute to society: Governor urges NERIST grads

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra today called upon the students of North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) to contribute towards the development of the society, alma mater, state and the nation.
Gracing the sixth convocation of the deemed university at its campus, the governor said that till the day of the convocation, the parents, guardians, institution and society have been contributing in the achievement of the passing out of the students and now it is the time that they pay back to the society.
Congratulating the students who were awarded degrees, Mishra emphasised that the graduates must strive to develop a scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform in themselves and also protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and be compassionate to living creatures as enshrined in the Constitution.

Printed copies of fundamental duties were given to the graduating students along with their degrees.
The governor was highly impressed to see a large number of girl students among the recipients of PhD degrees.
The governor, who is also the President of NERIST Society, called upon the members of the faculty to be coach, friend, philosopher and guide to the students.

The Chairman, Board of Management of NERIST, Prof U C Ray and NERIST Director Prof Tamo Mibang also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the Governor presented gold medals to 50 students for securing highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for academic session of 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Thirty seven students received their Ph D degree and 412 out of 1,086 students received their degrees in person on the occasion.
