Contributions worth Rs 96.53 crore by corporates and other individuals, have been received for undertaking relief and rehabilitation work in flood affected areas of Tamil Nadu.
As torrential rainfall devastated several areas of the state since October 1, leaving 347 people dead and many others rendered homeless, donations to take up relief and rehabilitation works have been pouring in from all corners.
Jaya Television and city-based diversified business conglomerate Murugappa Group were latest to join the contribution and have donated Rs 5 crore each, an official release said.
Prabha Sivakumar, a top official from Jaya TV and Murugappa Group Executive-Chairman A Vellayan handed over Rs 5 crore worth of cheques each to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat here.
With the latest contributions, the total fund touched Rs 96.53 crore, the release added.
