A national convention to discuss the need for social protection to combat child labour will be held on June 12 in the national capital.
International organisations will debate on the role of social protection as a key part of national strategies tackling child labour during the convention, an NCPCR official said today.
"This year, our theme is 'Social Protection: Combat child labour'. We will focus on the role of social protection in keeping children out of child labour and removing them from it," NCPCR Chairperson, Kushal Singh told reporters here.
Singh said social protection would enable access to education, health care and nutrition, and plays a pivotal role in the fight against child labour.
"Emphasis of our meeting will be on social protection to vulnerable groups to ensure that such groups do not send their children for child labour," she said.
"It is very important to first identify the various factors which give rise to child labour and then tackle them. I feel all ministries must get together and ensure social security to vulnerable groups in the society," she added.

She said NCPCR had already conducted four zonal conferences across India where recommendations on areas to improve and extend social protection were put forth.
The four zonal conferences were held at Dehradun, Assam, Ahmedabad and Bangalore, culminating in a national convention at (Indian Habitat Centre in) Delhi on June 12.
The convention is held by NCPCR to commemorate the International Day Against Child Labour. In India, NCPCR, along with the UNICEF and ILO, have been jointly celebrating the day since 2009.
